Senior Credit Underwriter

Job description

Bank ABC seeks to recruit a Senior Credit Underwriter in the Head Office Credit Department based in Bahrain. Reporting to the Group Chief Credit Officer, the job holder supports, promotes, monitors and controls, on an independent and ongoing basis, the Bank's pursuit of good quality loan and other risk assets within the Corporate Credit portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the credit risk of new business and periodically review existing clients, in line with risk appetite, policies and procedures
• Make clear, timely recommendations to the appropriate credit committee, highlighting key risks and available mitigation
• Submit credit proposals within the prescribed timeframe for GCC submission and establish clear underwriting procedures
• Ensure outstanding documentation on the Out of Order report is covered in the credit approval form with reasons to mitigate risk
• Monitor developments in the countries covered and travel for portfolio reviews when required
• Ensure adherence to the Group's Risk Appetite Statement and Group Credit Policy, standards and procedures
• Conduct regular portfolio reviews of corporate obligors and escalate key risk issues
• Deliver sector or country reports and support CRG transformational projects
• Attend at least one external training course per year and regular internal seminars

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree; a postgraduate MSc/MBA and/or professional qualification is a plus
• At least 10 years of experience, preferably with an international bank
• Knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement analysis and banking products and services with strong credit analytical skills
• Good knowledge of vanilla credit product risks and key aspects of legal documentation
• Good knowledge of corporate and bank balance sheet analysis techniques
• Understanding of the bank, corporate and FI market and credit products
• Understanding of the Bank's lending policies, procedures and practices
• Ability to analyze a bank's capital, asset quality, profitability and liquidity
