Job description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises. Since 2017 it has supported Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi communities in Cox's Bazar, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong with integrated services and works on climate resilience, economic recovery, education and protection. The Driver transports authorized passengers and goods in an IRC vehicle in line with Bangladesh traffic rules and IRC security and safety rules, providing a safe and efficient service. The contract length is 1 year with a high possibility of extension, based at the IRC Bangladesh Dhaka office, reporting to the Office Administrator.

Responsibilities

• Check the technical condition of the assigned vehicle daily (tires, oil, fuel, brakes, spare parts) and perform weekly checks according to the IRC logbook
• Keep the vehicle neat, clean and in perfect driving condition
• Ensure the security of passengers by driving carefully and complying with speed limits, traffic rules and IRC security rules
• Ensure correct loading and unloading, deliver documents to the receiver, check the status of delivered goods and return completed documents to Supply Chain
• Record every trip in the logbook and hand over properly when another driver uses the vehicle
• Keep vehicle documents (fitness certificate, tax token) up to date and secured
• Ensure non-IRC staff sign a discharge of liability before using the vehicle
• Report any incident involving passengers or goods to the line manager
• Submit vehicle maintenance request forms to the Fleet Manager for routine servicing and repairs

Requirements

• Minimum SSC or equivalent; may be relaxed for candidates with a Safe/Defensive Driving certificate from UNDSS Bangladesh or a reputed organization
• Valid professional driving licence
• Ability to read, write and understand basic English
• Minimum 3-5 years of professional driving experience with UN agencies or international NGOs
• Experience driving both manual and automatic vehicles
• Familiarity with local roads, especially Dhaka city and highway routes
• Willingness to travel and stay overnight outside home and to work outside normal hours when required
• Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance, road safety regulations and Bangladesh traffic rules
• Good vision; an eye test is mandatory for the selected candidate
