Power Gen Mechanic

Job description

Amentum is hiring a Power Gen Mechanic in Oman to operate, maintain, test, repair, service and store electrical generating equipment, water distribution systems, flood lights, air compressors and aircraft arresting systems. The mechanic performs required inspections and scheduled maintenance, troubleshoots repair situations and performs other maintenance on all assigned equipment, in compliance with the Performance Work Statement and Amentum's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

The work is based in a maintenance shop or warehouse environment and may involve working outdoors for extended periods, exposure to extreme noise from operating equipment, and temporary duty travel within the area of operations.

Responsibilities

• Examine electrical equipment and systems for damage, corrosion and operation
• Connect and use test equipment and meters such as voltmeters, ammeters, megohmmeters and oscilloscopes
• Erect, repair and service electrical power distribution systems and equipment
• Operate, maintain, test, repair, service and store electrical generating equipment, water distribution systems, flood lights, air compressors and aircraft arresting systems
• Bench check repairable components, subassemblies and solid-state components using test equipment and load banks
• Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints and maintenance malfunction data
• Analyse malfunctions by inspection, observation of operation and use of test equipment
• Repair, inspect, fabricate, clean, maintain and prepare BEAR assets/equipment for air, sea or road shipment in accordance with technical orders, manuals and checklists
• Assist in the erection, construction and operation of bare base power generation equipment for exercises and contingencies
• Prepare documentation including work orders, supply forms and Maximo updates
• Operate material handling equipment as required
• Inspect hazardous materials in the work centre and coordinate their disposal when required
• Perform temporary duty (TDY) in the area of operations as required

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience on high/low voltage generators and load testing, or equivalent automobile mechanical experience
• Able to understand, speak, read and write English at a beginner level, with organisational skills
• Valid home country driver's license and ability to obtain a host nation driver's license
• Physically able to lift, push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs and handle equipment extensively
• Able to travel domestically and internationally
• Willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Preferred: ability to read technical data, plans and publications on BOB assets or similar Department of Defense contingency systems
• Preferred: Maximo experience
