Corrosion Control Specialist

Job description

The Corrosion Control Specialist prepares AGE, vehicles, bare base equipment, cryogenics assets, fuels support equipment and non-explosive munitions for painting, and applies specified paint finish schemes using air or airless spray equipment or by brush. The role ensures compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and the Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS), working in a maintenance shop or warehouse environment and sometimes outdoors for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Remove or abrade existing paint finish by sandblasting, scraping, sanding or chemical paint removing methods
• Treat corrosion on ferrous and non-ferrous metals by grinding, wire brushing or chemical acid treatment as appropriate
• Apply metal conditioners and pretreatment washes
• Apply body filler to holed or depressed areas and smooth the filled areas to match the surface contour
• Apply complete finishing schemes, as specified, using pneumatic or airless spraying equipment or by brush
• Apply lettering and identifying insignia and perform maintenance and repair procedures on all equipment used
• Identify the correct thinners with paints for different applications
• Work in a maintenance shop or warehouse environment and outdoors for extended periods when required

Requirements

• Organisational skills and the ability to understand, speak, read and write English at a beginner level
• Ability to read and understand technical data and to identify canned paint and material products by labels
• Knowledge of associated health and hazard risks and the established precautions
• Valid driver’s license
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience in industrial corrosion removal and painting procedures on metals, including correct use of associated equipment
• Willingness to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as prescribed
• Ability to meet the physical requirements and pass any medical examination related to the daily assigned tasks
• Physically capable of lifting, pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
