BRAC is looking for a WASH Expert for the Community Engagement, Mobilisation and Resilience Capacity Building (CEMRCB) component of the World Bank-funded, LGED-implemented Resilient Infrastructure for Adaptation and Vulnerability Reduction (RIVER) project, under the Disaster Risk Management Programme. The RIVER project aims to reduce community vulnerability to riverine and flash floods, strengthen disaster preparedness and response capacity, and enable rapid responses to emergencies across flood-prone districts of the Teesta-Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Padma and Surma-Meghna basins. The WASH Expert will enhance community resilience for potential disasters by developing a WASH strategy that addresses the water, sanitation and hygiene needs of the community in the shelters and promotes sustainable and equitable access to these services. Location: Dhaka Field Office. Job category: project staff for a specific project. Initial contract of 1 year, which may be extended based on performance. This position is open to Bangladeshi nationals only. Selected candidates go through a reference and background check, which may include police verification. BRAC does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.

দায়িত্ব

• Conduct assessments to identify the WASH needs of the community, including water supply, sanitation facilities and hygiene practices, during the disaster period and in the post-disaster scenario
• Facilitate community engagement by working with community members to identify WASH needs and priorities, and ensure their voices are heard in activity planning and decision-making
• Develop WASH strategies that address the WASH needs of the community in the shelters and promote sustainable and equitable access to water, sanitation and hygiene services
• Develop a strategy and prepare materials on behavioural change communication (BCC), including improvement of nutrition, WASH practices (personal hygiene, hand washing with soap, menstrual hygiene), use of safe water and elimination of open defecation
• Support the community to understand the basics of shelter management and develop a collective plan for evacuee and shelter management with designated roles and responsibilities
• Monitor and evaluate the WASH impacts of community engagement, mobilisation, resilience and capacity building activities, collecting and analysing data to measure WASH outcomes and making recommendations for improvement
• Provide technical assistance and support to team members and stakeholders to implement WASH strategies and engage effectively with community members
• Safeguarding: ensure the safety of programme participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation, including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA)
• Practise, promote and endorse the safeguarding policy among team members and follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case of any reportable incident

যোগ্যতা

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Public Health Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Studies, or a relevant discipline from a recognised institution
• Minimum 8 years of work experience in a relevant field
• Excellent interpersonal communication and facilitation skills
• Strong ability and proven track record in capacity need assessment and influencing
• Project planning and organisational skills
• Bangladeshi nationals only
