Job description

NDS9 is a global, end-to-end garment design, manufacturing, and sourcing partner with 14 years of heritage in apparel manufacturing and a network of 30+ specialized production facilities across nine countries, with merchandising offices and design studios in New York, Barcelona, Delhi, Dubai and Dhaka. As volumes and buyer base grow, NDS9 seeks a highly experienced Commercial Manager to take full ownership of its export-import operations and banking relationships, safeguarding cash flow, compliance, and timely realization of every shipment. Department: Commercial / Finance & Trade Operations. Full-time, permanent. Reports to the Director (Finance & Commercial). Work location: Dhaka, Bangladesh (with visits to banks, ports, and affiliated factories as required). The Commercial Manager owns the full commercial cycle, from receipt of buyer L/C or contract, through back-to-back import of raw materials and accessories, shipment documentation, and bank negotiation, to final realization of export proceeds, while managing banking partners, credit facilities, and regulatory obligations. Only shortlisted candidates meeting the minimum experience requirement will be contacted. No TA/DA will be provided for the selection process.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete export cycle: receipt and scrutiny of buyer L/Cs, sales contracts and POs, amendments, shipment documentation, and bill submission and negotiation.
  • Prepare and verify all export documents (commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading/airway bill, certificate of origin, GSP, inspection and shipping documents) to ensure clean, on-time negotiation.
  • Coordinate with Merchandising, Shipping, Production, and C&F/freight-forwarding partners to align shipment schedules with L/C terms, expiry, and shipment dates.
  • Ensure timely realization of export proceeds within Bangladesh Bank timelines, following up with buyers and banks on overdue payments.
  • Handle export-related incentives, cash-incentive claims, duty-drawback, and related government/bank submissions accurately and on time.
  • Manage import of fabrics, trims, accessories, packing materials, and capital machinery, from proforma invoice review and L/C opening through shipment tracking, customs clearance, and delivery to factory.
  • Open, amend, and settle back-to-back L/Cs against master L/Cs within permissible limits, tracking utilization, maturity, and acceptance.
  • Maintain bonded warehouse and utilization compliance (UD/UP, raw-material consumption records, wastage declarations, reconciliations), ensuring audit-readiness at all times.
  • Coordinate with C&F agents and port/customs authorities to minimize demurrage, detention, and clearance delays; negotiate freight, insurance, and clearing costs.
  • Ensure accurate HS code classification, duty/tax computation, and strict compliance with customs, VAT, and import-policy regulations.
  • Own and manage relationships with all banking partners; negotiate and maintain credit limits, L/C facilities, packing credit, export bill discounting, working-capital lines, and other trade facilities.
  • Plan and manage trade-finance utilization (L/C margins, back-to-back ratios, packing credit, EDF/ERQ, FDBP/LDBP) to optimize liquidity and minimize financing cost.
  • Lead renewals, enhancements, and new-facility proposals with banks, preparing credit documentation, financial data, and order-book projections.
  • Monitor bank charges, interest, and commissions; reconcile bank statements and trade-finance accounts.
  • Maintain adherence to Bangladesh Bank regulations, foreign-exchange rules, UCP 600/ISBP standards, and bank-specific procedures.
  • Manage foreign-exchange exposure and remittance timing in coordination with Finance.
  • Prepare and present regular MIS: L/C status, shipment-to-realization pipeline, outstanding receivables, bank-limit utilization, financing cost, and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Review buyer and supplier commercial terms (payment terms, Incoterms, penalties, claims), advising management on risk.
  • Maintain full audit trail and statutory compliance (customs, NBR, Bangladesh Bank, BGMEA/BKMEA, bonded-warehouse, and bank audits); coordinate with internal and external auditors.
  • Lead, train, and develop the commercial and shipping/documentation team, setting clear SOPs, checklists, and accountability for zero-discrepancy execution.
  • Drive process digitization and continuous improvement across trade documentation and banking workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Banking, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CDCS/CITF (documentary credit/trade finance) is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum 12+ years of commercial/export-import experience in the RMG/textile export industry, including at least 3 years in a manager or equivalent senior commercial role.
  • Proven, hands-on mastery of the complete export-import cycle, back-to-back L/C, bonded warehouse and UD/UP procedures, and customs and shipping documentation.
  • Demonstrated track record of independently managing multiple banks, negotiating trade facilities, and handling bank limit renewals and enhancements for a large or multi-unit exporter.
  • Experience managing a commercial function across multiple factories or group concerns is highly preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Bangladesh Bank foreign-exchange regulations, UCP 600, ISBP, Incoterms, customs, and export-import policy.
  • Strong financial acumen: trade-finance costing, cash-flow planning, and bank-facility optimization.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder-management, and relationship-building skills with bankers, buyers, and authorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the discipline to deliver discrepancy-free documentation under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in ERP/commercial software, advanced Excel, and MIS reporting; excellent English communication.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive salary, commensurate with experience and track record.
  • Festival bonuses as per company policy.
  • A senior, high-visibility role with direct access to top management and genuine ownership of a critical function.
  • Opportunity to grow with a fast-expanding global manufacturing and sourcing group.

  • Advanced Excel
  • Back-to-Back L/C
  • Bangladesh Bank Regulations
