Job description
The Board Repair Technician is a key member of the Surf Ops team at Bahrain Surf Park, responsible for keeping the surfboard fleet in safe, high-quality condition for guests every day. Working from the on-site repair workshop, you will carry out repairs on epoxy and PU/polyester surfboards, from minor dings to structural and delamination repairs, making sure every board meets safety and quality standards before it goes back in the water.
You will manage daily board assessments, repair triage, workshop organization and consumables stock, working closely with the Surf Academy Manager and Head of Operations. This is a hands-on, craft-focused role that needs technical skill and attention to detail, and you will also repair guests' and privately owned boards.
Responsibilities
- Inspect all surfboards each day before opening and assess every board for damage.
- Triage boards by damage severity as ready-to-use, requiring repair or to be decommissioned.
- Keep an up-to-date board condition log tracking repair status, turnaround times and board lifecycle.
- Escalate structural or safety concerns to management and remove affected boards from service.
- Carry out ding repairs, crack fixes, nose and tail damage, delamination, snapped boards and structural rebuilds on epoxy and PU/polyester boards.
- Cut, lay and laminate fibreglass cloth and mix resin to the correct ratios.
- Sand, shape and finish repaired areas to a professional standard.
- Maintain soft-top boards, including deck re-gluing and nose and tail protection.
- Fit and replace fin boxes, fins, leash plugs and traction pads.
- Manage stock of repair consumables and order workshop supplies in good time.
- Maintain workshop tools and equipment in safe, working condition and keep the workshop clean and organized.
- Work safely with resins, hardeners, fibreglass dust and power tools, using appropriate PPE and following chemical handling procedures.
- Complete incident and near-miss reports as required.
Requirements
- Proven hands-on experience in surfboard repair, working with both epoxy and PU/polyester constructions.
- Fluent English (B2 minimum); Arabic is a strong plus.
- Formal training in composite materials, fibreglass laminating, boat-building or a related craft is desirable but not essential.
- Meticulous attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Experience or familiarity with the Middle East environment and culture is a plus.
